What a busy time we've had since I last wrote, Harvest is now almost complete (just the beans to go) and I've been training our new black lab puppy Pluto, which is still a work-in-progress!

Apple Celebrations

If, like us, you think one of the best things about Autumn is that British apples are in season and that apple pies/crumbles are the desert staple, then you might like to visit our local National Trust Property, Gunby Hall & Gardens on Sunday 11st October when they'll be celebrating all things 'apple' . There will be apple displays, apple identification (bring your own), apple treats and many trade and craft stalls. Even get expert advice on pruning and general fruit tree care if you can grow your own. I've been cleaning and painting the old outhouses we use to store our apples and have the old potato chitting crates ready for picking our crop.

Wolds Words Festival

This festival of reading, writing, performance, local history and crafts has been going for 14 years and has attracted over 2,000 people to attend. This year it will be held 21 st - 25 th October predominantly in Spilsby and Louth, both towns are within easy reach of our cottages. The programme is coming soon to their website, so keep an eye onhttp://www.woldswords.org.uk  as there is bound to be something for everyone.

October Half Term- Saturday 24 th October - Sunday 1 st November

Get the whole family together this October half term for some fun. Currently both Owl and Pheasant Cottages available if you wan to bring granny and grandpa too. Book both cottages together for 7 nights at the special price of £700 (saving £105). If the weather is kind the kids will love a trip to the award winning golden sandy beaches a short drive away or the countryside walks/cycle rides on the doorstep. There's also plenty going on in and around the area, such as:

Frequency Festival of Digital Culture – 23rd October – 1st November 2015

Lincoln’s medieval streets will take on a modern twist during the city’s biennial Frequency Festival, a celebration of digital culture. To coincide with the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta being sealed, this year’s event will explore the theme of liberation. A series of art exhibitions, installations, performances and lively debates will be held in a diverse range of historic and contemporary venues across the city. Half-term entertainment can be expensive but this has free events! See http://frequency.org.uk/ for further details.

Lincolnshire Sausage Festival – 24th October 2015

If you’re a foodie, why not combine your visit to the Frequency Festival of Digital Culture with a visit to the 13th Lincolnshire Sausage Festival. Following its renovation, Lincoln Castle is playing host to the event, which celebrates the county’s most iconic food product. Live cookery demonstrations, children’s entertainment and live music are on offer, as well as plenty of food stalls selling various types of sausage, making this a must-visit event for any meat connoisseur.  Alternatively pop to Saywells, our local butcher, for some authentic local Lincolnshire sausages.

Wolds Words Festival Children and Young People Programme - 27-29 October

Keep your eye on their website as details of the programme are to be announced:http://www.woldswords.org.uk  Last year I took our grandson to The Trinity Centre in Louth to see Nick Cope perform live, hoping there'll be opportunity to see him again he was so entertaining!
